Sulfuric Acid

— Posted by chemical rxn on 11:19 pm on April 3, 2002

I know to make Sulfuric acid you need to bubble sulfur dioxide through water, But to get the sulfur dioxide do i need to just heat sulfer or do I acually burn it. I was thinking just heating because wouldn’t it give the sulfur enough energy to react w/ the air. I’m sure burning would work. But that would complicate things for me. I know I can just buy it. But I would prefer making it myself. Anyone w/ experience have any ideas?

I’m not sure about making, but I get it from old car batteries.

To make sulfuric acid you need a car battery.punch a hole in the battery and pour it into a heat proof container.boil the acid.when you see white fumes evolving stop heating avoid breathing those fumes. The acid is now concentrated. be careful with it, it carbonizes organic material like skin.
