enhanced flamethrower idea

— Posted by GhEtTo BoY on 3:34 am on Mar. 21, 2002

ok well heres my idea an i wanna no if it would work or not or wether i wuld be blowing my arms off
its pretty simple but if it worked it could be awesome
if i was to fill up a super soaker with any flammable liquid say methalated spirits then pump it and shoot while lighting it as it comes out   would it work or would the flame go back into the tank and blow up ?
if it doesnt work are there any ways i could modify it to make it work
wuld it even work with the little hand gun water pistols ?

I think there’d be a risk there. Remeber that a super soaker works by pumping air into the water chamber to give it pressure. Well, pressurized air and a highly flammable liquid mixed together can be ignited quite readily, which will promptly put you in big trouble. You’ll also have to make sure your fuel doesn’t attack the plastic of the gun, as gasoline, acetone, and several others will.

and remember super-soaker are made of plastic. the flammable liquid might corrode the plastic-hoses inside and you’d have your hands covered with it…

also the flame will go down the barrel. the oxygen is a bonus but it is still a plastic nozzle and not very reliable…

it would work if you had a CO2 tank where from you’d take the propellant and if you’d replace all plastic parts by metal parts but then you could just build a completely new flamethrower…

wat if i used kerosene or methalated spirits coz that isnt a gasoline and i dont think it would corrode. or wat if i filled tha tank with a gas like hair spray or somfin ?
is there any way to stop the flame from going back into the tube oh yeh and i thought that flame only started at point of contact ??
                  /                         liquid
            /////\/////\//      /
          <____________>                                    |               ========
                source of flame eg. match         supersoaker

so wat i mean is liek the flame comes from where the match touches the liquid and goes out from there   it doesnt actually go back in ??
k this mite b kinda confusin but i hope it gives u a basic idea of wat i mean?

It’s the pressure pushing the fuel away from he tip of the weapon that keeps it from burning back into the barrel. The problem is, that as the pressure in the resevoir drops the flame will creap back along the stream of fuel. also the trigger valve for a supersoaker is just a plastic arm that pinches a plastic hose, Not a valve that will snap compeatly closed instantly sealing the fuel from the flame. It’s just like when you pinch a garden hose but water still dribbles out . not a good system to bet ;your skin on!

To help stoping the flame from going back into the tank, or at all, you could have something in your hand ready to put in front of the nozzle to block the flame from coming back into the tank.

Also, to light the flame you could add an extension to the end like a peice of would about thirty cm long and put some napalm on it because it does not blow out easily and it burns for quite a while. If you dont know how to make napalm just check the archives in the homemade bombs section.

While we are on the subject of amazingly bad ideas for things to do with water toy. Here is another one that is pretty spectacular. get one of those rockets that you fill with water and pump up, fill with gasoline rig a remote launcher using boards,duck tape, string, etc. set a good sturdy lit candle next to it , clear the blast area, and light up the sky. This is incredibly dangerous!!!! and very good for on the 4th of july.

It works. I saw it happen in a Van Damme movie once so it has to work.

Just because it was in a movie doesnt mean that it works.If you look at a film and know your stuff you can see all the various mistakes like a silencer doesnt go fffffiiiiiipppp and Arnie firing his M79 at the wall of the lab in T2.Despite the fact that a round of M79 doesnt arm itself until after 20 to 30 meters of flight and the room was only about 5 meters long.In short Dont go by what is in a movie!

hell i cant even see the post weer i was bein sarcastic !
but comon does anybody have any ideas that can make this work 100 %
coz u no if i does then all those ppl whinging about makin a flamethrower that shoots far all u gotta do is use this coz super soakers can shoot at least up to 30 feet

ohh yeh btw  if it did work would the flame come  out like the 1nes in saving private ryan or wuld it just b a thin stream of fire ??

No dont worry dude that wasnt to you. It was to that balor guy who edited my comment. And I would say it would be a thin stream but i dont know…It would be the coolest when the super soaker is almost empty and starts spraying everywhere.
