Need help with impact detonator

— Posted by Duke1901 on 3:48 am on April 6, 2002

Im thinking about building a shoulder fired rocket like a bazooka or a RPG. I need help on the impact detonator for the rocket. I have drawn up a rough diagram, any one have any suggestions on how I can improve it?

dude u want to put some arming device in there or ur going to end up blowin urself up Drill a tiny hole in the side and insert some kind of rod with possible screw head to block the firn pin from kncking the percussion cap. and a rod that dont fall out either. failing that u could put a fine mesh cone on the front which will stop small knocks from settin the thing of. nice rough drawing.

Good Idea I add something like a grenade pin Anyone got  any ideas on how I can simplify it?

AP incased primer for a HTMD warhead………
or
AP incased primer for a monroe shape warhead though this one would take a while to get right but would have the most affect on a single area

or Mix Potassium Chlorate with Sulphur and Dark German Aluminum In a tube with a sealed end and a plunger sticking out so when the warhead strikes the target it forces the plunger down and compress the Mix causing it to explode………… I have never made one but have played the idea out in my head.

so test away and report back what worked and did not work

So many great Idea have gotten sweep off the garage floor.
So many Kewl Bombers have been scrapped off the walls.

Turn the firing pin and detonator assembly  around so that the firing pin is held in place behind the detonator and percussion cap by a retaining spring. When the rocket hits something the spring will stretch allowing the firing pin to move forward and strike the percussion cap.I had mine the way you had yours and the rocket being launched was enough to set it off prematurly every time no matter how strong a spring I could practically use. Hope that bit of advice helped. Dont fire from the shoulder until your positive its safe.oh yeah make sure you have a safety pin blocking the firing pin at all times when your not about to fire.

The IRA makes mortars that when flying through the air arms themselfs. A fan on top of a bolt that screws in while flying touches down on a .22 round that is used to set of the main chage when it hits the ground.

Its just an idea but sounds pritty solid to me.

Yes an arming device is almost nessasary or it is to risky to shoot when you are close.  A 22lr shell right at the tip would be safer I would think.  you would have to have a 7/32″ hole in some steel and the rim of the cartrige must have no more that 1/3 of its surface area in contact divided up into 4-5 areas for reliable detonation.  Also you could have an alternate or dual igniton form the engine like a fuze in the back so when it is done burning it lights the fuse and if the impact detonator fails It is shure to go off this way.  but It may explode prematuraly on distant targets.
